Computer Essentials
- ICT and types of ICT Services: ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is a general term for digital technology used to access, store, and process information.Different ICT services include Internet services (e.g., online banking, shopping), mobile technology, and office productivity applications (e.g., word processors, spreadsheets).
- Definition of Computer: A computer is an electronic device that manipulates data by storing, retrieving, and processing it.
- Hardware vs. Software: Computer parts fall into two categories: hardware and software.
- Hardware: Physical components of a computer (e.g., monitor, keyboard, mouse, motherboard, CPU, RAM).
- Software: Instructions and programs that tell the computer what tasks to perform (e.g., operating systems, applications).
Computer Parts
- Main Parts of a Personal Computer: Includes microprocessor (CPU), memory (RAM), read-only memory (ROM), system board (motherboard), and disk drivers (CDs, DVDs, hard drives.).
- Computer Peripherals: These are devices that connect to the computer system unit, but are not part of its core architecture.Peripherals include keyboards, mice, monitors, printers, optical drives, and various ports.

- Types of Networks: Networks connect computers to share resources and communicate.
- Local Area Network (LAN): A small network within a building or office.
- Personal Area Network (PAN): A network within a short range of 10 meters surrounding an individual.
- Metropolitan Area Network (MAN): Connects multiple LANs in a city.
- Wide Area Network (WAN): Largest network that connects multiple MANs or LANs throughout countries or the world(e.g., the internet).
- Mobile Network Operator (MNO): The provider of a cellular network, providing wireless communication service.
