Study Notes
Station Training
- Daily training sessions are conducted by Officers with their crews from 10:00 to 11:30 and 13:00 to 14:30, Monday to Saturday.
- Additional training may be conducted by Officers and Superior Officers as necessary.
- Support Division personnel participate in scheduled training sessions and programs.
Physical Fitness
- Members can use approved exercise equipment at stations or TFS facilities after completing vehicle and station maintenance, training, and other TFS activities.
- Members must obtain Captain's approval and supervision to use the equipment.
- Members can wear suitable shorts, sweatpants, and tops while working out.
- Members must wear TFS-issued clothing when responding to emergency calls.
Electronic Equipment
- The use of electronic equipment, including TVs, computers, internet, and videos, is a privilege that can be revoked by an Officer due to inappropriate use.
- Instances of revoked privileges will be recorded and submitted to the Platoon Chief/Division Chief.
Smoking
- Smoking is prohibited in all Toronto Fire Services buildings, stations, or on apparatus, as per the Smoke-Free Ontario Act (2017).
Use of Bunks
- Bunks are only for on-duty personnel between 2300 hours and 0630 hours after completing all TFS-related activities.
- Use of bunks outside these hours requires District Chief approval for special cases of sickness or fatigue.
Telephones
- TFS telephones are only for Fire Service business, except in emergency cases.
- Private telephone calls are prohibited during scheduled training and assigned duties, unless urgent.
- Private cell phones are not permitted on fire apparatus.
Gambling
- Members are not allowed to gamble while on duty.
Meetings and Visitors
- No political meetings or gatherings are permitted in TFS workplaces unless authorized by the Fire Chief.
- Social or charity events require prior permission from the Fire Chief.
- Visitors must be escorted and will not be allowed to loiter or congregate for an unreasonable time.
Ticket Sales and Soliciting
- Members are not allowed to sell tickets or solicit advertising, subscriptions, gifts, or contributions in the name of TFS without the Fire Chief's permission.
Station Alterations
- Members are not allowed to alter or change TFS buildings, fixtures, or appliances without the Fire Chief's permission.
- No member can bring in furnishings or appliances without the Fire Chief's or authorized designate's permission.
