- Intertextuality is the modeling of a text's meaning by another text.
- It is the connection between language, images, characters, themes, or subjects depending on their similarities in language, genre, or discourse.
Types of Intertextuality
- Obligatory Intertextuality: When the writer deliberately involves a comparison or association between two or more texts.
- Optional Intertextuality: When the writer pays homage to the original writers, or to reward those who have read the hypotext.
- Accidental Intertextuality: When readers connect a text with another text, cultural practice, or personal experience without a tangible anchor point within the original text.
