Definition of Key Terms

• Incentive refers to something given or received in return for taking some action.
• Accountability is the requirement to provide satisfactory reasons for significant deviations from duties or expected results.

Generations

• Millennials are the generation born between 1981 and 2000, also known as Generation Y or Generation Next.
• Generation X refers to the generation born between 1965 and 1980, characterized by independent thinkers, self-reliant, and expert users of technology, valuing a work-life balance.
• Baby Boomers are the generation born between 1946 and 1964.

Organizational Dynamics

• Intergenerational workforce occurs within an organization, department, or team with members from two or more generations.

Communication Approaches

• The five-step approach to effect two-way communication involves:
  • Requesting that the other person identify the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of the problem.
  • Asking for details.
  • Developing ideas.
  • Agreeing on the actions to be taken.
  • Reviewing the main points and deciding how to follow up.

Learning and Development

• On-the-job training involves team members in real work, discussion, reflection, review, and sharing of learning to build task competency and improve communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and decision making.
• Self-directed learning is a process where the learner initiates the learning and makes the decisions about what learning and development experiences will occur.

Assessment

• Valid assessment is based on validity, reliability, fairness, and flexibility.
