Degree Duration

Student Classification
- Student classification is based on the number of credit hours registered in a semester as well as the number of credit hours completed.
- Students are classified as regular if they register for at least 12 credit hours in fall and spring semesters and at least 6 credit hours during the summer semester, within the minimum stipulated duration of the degree program.
- Students are classified as "Casual" students when registering for less than 12 credit hours during the fall and spring and 6 credit hours or less during summer, or register for subjects after completed the minimum degree duration.
- Students are classified based on completed credit hours including the following
- “First Year” students have successfully completed less than or up to 32 credit hours.
- “Second Year” students - more than 32 to 68 credit hours.
- “Third Year” students - more than 68 to 104 credit hours.
- “Fourth Year” students in a 5 year program - more than 104 to 136 credit hours.
- “Final Year” students - more than 104 credit hours for a four-year program, and more than 136 credit hours for a five-year program.
Credit Requirements
- Degree credit range is 134-140 for four-year and 166-174 for five-year programs.
- A minimum of 6 credit hours for the final year design project equivalents over two semesters
Semesters and Registration
- Fall and spring are regular semesters, summer is optional.
- Fall and spring last 16-18 weeks, including exams, with 15 study weeks.
- Summer lasts eight weeks, contact hours double from fall and spring.
- The Board of Studies determines the permissible number of students in a subject section
- Tutors are to be consulted for registration guidance.
- 1st and 2nd year students register for at most 19 credit hours fall and spring.

Curriculum and Subject Types
- The curriculum, subject identification, credit hours, and syllabi align with Board of Studies and Faculty proposals, approved by the Syndicate and Academic Council.
- Subjects are classified into three types:
- The "Theory" shall be lectures for type A with teachers supplemented by home assignments.
- "Practical" shall be experiments, studio laboratory, designs, drawings, assignments for type B with teachers supplemented by home
- "Comprehensive Projects" Students which will be direct supervision of teachers for type C in laboratory/studio/workshop/industry.
Type-A Evaluation and Contact Hours
- A mid-term exam of at least 1 hour and a final exam of 1.5 hour will respectively carry weights of 30% and 40% with the final covering 20% of pre-midterm course.
- Additional assignments such as quizzes and group discussions also carry a weight of 30%.
- 1 hour per week during fall/spring and 2 for summer for subjects categorized as type-A.
Type-B Evaluation and Contact Hours
- Each experiment, studio work, project or assignment is viewed as an independent assessment and performance is determined.
- For subjects type-B which will each be assigned 2–3 hours for fall and spring each week and 4-6 during each summer.
Type-C Evaluation and Contact Hours
- Project assessment and assignment will be continuous and through viva voce or Jury exam.
- Assessment of continuous and final will be weigthed at 60% and 40% respectively.
- Both Internal & external examiners/jurors are necessary.
- There are each weigthed in at 2-4 hours for fall-spring semesters each week.
Letter Grades
- The faculty is to consult the Chairperson while assessing student's results and grade.
- Type-A subjects are to be graded through relative scale while the others can be determined through absolute scale.
- Steps for relative grade assessment include the following
- Content is assessed to require passing results
- Expectations of highest are set and recognition is determined
- Marks are listed descending and results are determined.
- Given list indicates the grade to the average
- Clusters are then awarded C+ or B- appropriately
- Normal Curve Basis is used over this if there is 100 or more
- May be no need for every class must be represented but some may not qualify even
Grades Continued
- "GP" shown by listed table and grades along said table (Given by Table)
