Regional Institutions

  • The University of the West Indies (UWI) is one of the earliest forms of regional integration in the Caribbean, established in 1949 with three campuses: Mona, Jamaica (1949), St. Augustine, Trinidad (1960), and Cave Hill, Barbados (1963).
  • UWI is the premier tertiary institution of the English-speaking Caribbean, aiming to advance education and promote knowledge, as well as support the development of the Caribbean region and beyond.

Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC)

  • The Caribbean Examinations Council was established in 1972 to provide regional and internationally recognized secondary school leaving examinations.
  • CXC's purpose is to satisfy the needs of the region, and its services include assisting with Common Entrance and other examinations, providing teaching materials, and training teachers to use the CXC syllabi.
  • CXC also acts as an advisor to regional governments on education and is headquartered in Barbados.

Cricket West Indies
