Understanding Special Events

Special events are non-routine occasions with leisure, cultural, personal, or organizational objectives set apart from the normal activity of daily life, aiming to enlighten, celebrate, entertain, or challenge the experience of a group of people. They bring people from outside the inner circle of the organization into contact with the cause.

Special events can be categorized as personal events (weddings, birthdays, anniversaries), leisure events (leisure, sports, recreation), cultural events (ceremonial, sacred, heritage, art, folklore), and organizational events (commercial, political, charitable, sales).

Special events are 'special' because they target an external market and bring people from outside the inner circle of the organization into contact with the cause.

The objectives of special events are to enlighten, celebrate, entertain, or challenge the experience of a group of people.
