The Hindi language, spoken by over half a billion people worldwide, is closely tied to its unique and beautiful script, Devanagari. The Devanagari Alphabet

Consonants

The Devanagari script incorporates 33 consonants, each with its own unique symbol. These consonants can be further grouped into five categories based on their position in the mouth during pronunciation:

1. Kshudra (or Laganā) - These are the consonants that are articulated near the lips.
2. Madhyama - These are the consonants that are articulated near the center (palate) of the mouth.
3. Anudatta - These are the consonants that are articulated near the teeth.

Vowels

The Devanagari script has 11 vowels, which include the five primary vowels (आ, इ, उ, ऋ, ए) and six secondary vowels (ऐ, ओ, औ, ा, ी, ू). The vowels can be combined with consonants to form consonant-vowel (CV) pairs, which are the fundamental building blocks of words in Devanagari script.

The Structure of Devanagari Script
