Understanding Copyright, Bias, and Credibility Quiz

Bias = Showing a strong opinion or preference for or against something or someone Copyright = Legal protection that creators have over the things they create Public domain = Creative work that's not copyrighted and free to use without permission Fair use = The ability to use copyrighted work without permission, but only in certain ways and specific situations

Credible = Able to be believed; trustworthy Corroboration = An additional source that confirms or supports a news story, article, or piece of information Digital Drama = When people use devices, apps, or websites to start or further a conflict between people De-Escalate = To lessen the intensity or anger in a conflict

Risky = Potentially harmful to one's emotional or physical well-being Private Information = Information about you that can be used to identify you because it is unique to you (e.g., your full name or your address) Hate Speech = An attack using any form of communication targeting a person or people because of a group they belong to -- race, gender, religion, ability, sexual orientation, etc. Fair use = The ability to use copyrighted work without permission, but only in certain ways and specific situations

Anonymous = Without a name or other information that identifies a person Empathy = To imagine the feelings that someone else is experiencing Self-Disclosure = Sharing private or personal thoughts and feelings with someone Privacy = Protection from being observed or tracked by others

Upstander = Someone who responds to a bullying situation by confronting the bully directly or by telling a trusted adult Digital Footprint = All the information online about a person either posted by that person or others, intentionally or unintentionally Cookies = Small text files placed on your device by the sites you visit that collect information about your device and your activity Media Balance = Using media in a way that feels healthy and in balance with other life activities (family, friends, school, hobbies, etc.)
