Types of Text
Simple Text
- A simple sentence or text that expresses a single idea or thought
- Typically has one independent clause
- Has a single main idea or topic
- Examples:
- Declarative sentence: "The sun rises in the east."
- Imperative sentence: "Close the door!"
- Interrogative sentence: "What is your name?"
Compound Text
- A text that contains two or more independent clauses (simple sentences) joined by a conjunction
- Each independent clause has a subject and a predicate
- The clauses are equal in importance and are joined by a conjunction (and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet)
- Examples:
- "I went to the store, and I bought some milk."
- "She studied for the exam, but she still didn't feel prepared."
Complex Text
- A text that contains an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses
- A dependent clause cannot stand alone as a complete sentence
- The dependent clause is introduced by a subordinating conjunction (because, although, if, unless, etc.)
- Examples:
- "When I finish my homework, I will watch TV." (dependent clause: "When I finish my homework")
- "Because I was tired, I went to bed early." (dependent clause: "Because I was tired")
