Types of Communication

Contexts of Communication

• Social context refers to the relations the interactors have toward each other and how close or distant that relationship is.
• Physical context deals with the physical 'where' the communication happens, including room arrangement, location, noise level, temperature, and time of day.
• Cultural context includes all the learned behaviors and rules that affect interaction, such as eye contact and cultural differences.

Other Types of Communication

• Small group communication involves more than three people and is usually done to solve problems.
• Public communication involves communication between one and several other people, and is considered the large group type of communication.

Communication Contexts and Styles

• There are five contexts in which communication happens: intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, public, and mass communication.
