Types of Numbers
- Natural/Counting numbers are used for counting: 1, 2, 3...
- Whole numbers include natural numbers and zero: 0, 1, 2, 3...
- Integers include positive whole numbers, negative whole numbers, and zero: ..., -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3...
- Rational numbers can be expressed as a fraction (numerator and denominator are integers), can be positive, negative, or zero.

Irrational numbers cannot be expressed as a fraction of two integers, have a decimal representation that is non-terminating and non-repeating.
- Examples: pi (π), square root of 2 (√2)
Other Number Classifications
- Odd numbers are not divisible by 2: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9...
- Even numbers are divisible by 2: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10...
- Prime numbers are greater than 1 and divisible only by 1 and themselves: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13...
- Composite numbers are greater than 1 and divisible by at least one other number besides 1 and themselves: 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12...
