### Types of Cultures
- Warm Cultures: High levels of enthusiasm, warmth and passion are expressed during conversations, these are common in Italy, Spain, Latin American countries.
- Neutral Cultures: Subdued expression of emotions, focus on factual communication, common in Japan, the UK, and many Scandinavian countries.
### Types of Communication
- Interracial Communication: Communication between people of different races, focuses on cultural differences between racial groups. An example is a conversation between a Black person and a White person discussing their cultural experiences.
- Interethnic Communication: Communication between people of different ethnic groups, focuses on understanding the unique cultural practices, beliefs, and customs of different ethnic groups. An example is a dialogue between a Hispanic person and a Native American discussing their traditions.
- International Communication: Communication between individuals from different countries, considers differences in language, customs, and legal systems. An example is a business meeting between representatives from Japan and the United States.
- Intracultural Communication: Communication within a single culture, examines shared norms, values, and language. An example is a conversation between friends in the same country discussing local events.
### Cross-Cultural Communication
- Acknowledges and appreciates cultural differences, but considers one culture as dominant when comparing other cultures.
### English Usage
- Inner Circle: English is the home language.

- Low Context Cultures: Communication is direct and explicit. Common in the United States, Germany, and Scandinavian countries.
### Sequential and Synchronic Cultures
- Sequential Cultures: Prefer to do one thing at a time in a linear fashion. Planning and schedules are important. Common in Germany, the U.S., and Switzerland.
- Synchronic Cultures: People can handle multiple tasks at once and may switch back and forth between activities. Time is flexible, relationships are prioritized. Examples: Mexico, India, and many African countries.
### Affective and Neutral Cultures
- Affective Cultures: People communicate emotions openly.
- Neutral Cultures: Subdued expression of emotions.
### Communication Barriers
- Verbal: Intrapersonal, Interpersonal (formal and informal), and organizational.
- Non-Verbal: Extended (formal & informal), visual.
