Study Notes

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Narrow AI: can perform a specific task better than humans, examples include playing chess, purchasing suggestions on e-commerce sites, self-driving cars, speech recognition, and image recognition
  • General AI: ability to think, puzzle, make judgments, plan, learn, and communicate on its own
  • Super AI: hypothetical concept of AI, ability to perform any task better than humans with cognitive properties
  • Reactive machine: focuses on current scenarios and reacts as per the best possible action, examples include IBM's Deep Blue system and Google Alpha Go
  • Limited memory: stores past experiences or some data for a short period of time, example includes self-driving cars
  • Theory of mind: understands human emotions, people, and beliefs and can interact socially like humans
  • Self-Awareness: machines will be smarter than the human mind and have their own consciousness and sentiments

Raspberry Pi

  • Has internal memory
  • Uses ARM instruction set architecture
  • Has micro SD card present in all modules
  • Powered through USB connection
  • Uses RJ45 Ethernet/LAN cable
  • Connects to TV using Male HDMI and adapter

Internet of Things (IoT)

  • Empowers IoT by bringing together everyday objects through connectivity
  • Characterized by dynamic nature, enormous scale, and heterogeneity
  • Devices have different hardware platforms and networks
  • Examples of IoT devices include sensors, actuators, and displays
  • Actuators transform electrical signals into physical movements, examples include DC motors, stepper motors, and linear actuators
  • Stepper motors are DC motors that convert electrical energy into mechanical energy

Machine Learning

  • Autonomous acquisition of knowledge through the use of computer programs
  • A branch of science that deals with programming systems to automatically learn and improve with experience
  • Examples include classifying email as spam, labeling webpages based on content, and voice recognition which are examples of supervised learning
  • K-means, self-organizing maps, and hierarchical clustering are examples of unsupervised learning
  • Deep learning is a subfield of machine learning inspired by the structure and function of the brain, also known as artificial neural networks
  • Machine learning was invented by Arthur Samuel
