Study Notes
Hazard Area Evacuation
- Evacuation methods depend on hazard imminence, type, and affected area.
- Initiate evacuation calls when an evacuation need is identified.
- Evacuation calls can be made via radio or an All-Call depending on urgency.
Evacuation Call Procedures
- Radio evacuation calls should be clear and notify all units to exit the hazard area.
- Any evacuation request should be directed toward the Incident Commander (IC).
- IC conducts a Personnel Accountability Report (PAR) after an evacuation order to confirm all personnel are safe.
All-Call Method
- Utilized in emergencies and when radio communication fails.
- Unit initiating an All-Call must inform the IC immediately after the call.
- The IC takes over to confirm evacuation and initiate PAR.
Sounding the Air Horn
- Use the steering column air horn to sound three series of three short blasts as an evacuation signal.
- Must be executed from a fire apparatus and requires the parking brake to be set to deactivate sirens.
Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC)
- IC may deploy RIC to retrieve crews that have not exited the hazard area.
- RIC is a viable option to evacuate crews not responding to radio calls, especially in imminent danger situations.
