Trigonometric Functions

Sine (sin)

• Defined as the ratio of the opposite side to the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle
• sin(A) = opposite side / hypotenuse
• Range: [-1, 1]

Cosine (cos)

• Defined as the ratio of the adjacent side to the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle
• cos(A) = adjacent side / hypotenuse
• Range: [-1, 1]

Tangent (tan)

• Defined as the ratio of the opposite side to the adjacent side of a right-angled triangle
• tan(A) = opposite side / adjacent side
• Range: (-∞, ∞)

Pythagorean Identity

• sin²(A) + cos²(A) = 1
• Relates the squares of the sine and cosine of an angle to the unit value 1

Triangular Functions

• sin(A) = cos(90° - A)
• cos(A) = sin(90° - A)
• tan(A) = 1 / tan(90° - A)
• These identities show the relationships between the sine, cosine, and tangent of an angle and its complementary angle (90° - A)
