Study Notes

CTR Completion Process

  • Completion of the Coaching and Training Report (CTR) occurs via the ADORE computer application, managed by the trainee with follow-up by the PTO.
  • Trainees and PTOs can work on the CTR outside of regular shift hours to minimize training impact.
  • Trainees receive compensation of up to three hours, while PTOs may receive up to two hours for their contributions to the CTR.

Structure and Content of CTR

  • Each CTR includes trainee comments on core competencies linked to selected calls for service and PTO coaching observations.
  • Trainees and PTOs collaboratively select which calls will be included in the CTR, with the option of selecting two calls if justified.
  • The focus is on increasing trainee responsibility for learning while allowing PTOs to document their coaching efforts.

Example of PATROL ACTIVITIES

  • A scenario featuring a warrant arrest may include numerous learned activities, such as appropriate police vehicle response, use of force protocols, and ethical decision-making.
  • Specific competencies addressed during the incident may encompass conflict resolution, report writing procedures, officer safety practices, and communication effectiveness.

Eight-Step Completion Procedure

  • Trainee and PTO maintain daily activity logs.
  • Weekly, a CTR is completed focusing on incidents relevant to current training topics and progress made.
  • Trainees write a summary of selected calls for service, breaking down competencies and outlining improvements and future learning needs.

Comments and Reviews

  • Trainee attaches training notes and call activity logs along with possible additional materials.
  • The CTR must be finalized in ADORE within one day of the training week’s end, followed by PTO review and feedback within three days.
  • Feedback templates are provided for both trainee and PTO, focusing on learned experiences and adequacy of progress.

Weekly Review And Adjustments

  • At the start of each week, previous CTRs are reviewed to identify areas needing improvement.
  • Discussions focus on learning progression, and if inadequate progress is observed, further training assistance may be implemented.
  • If progress issues persist, the Training Coordinator may be notified, potentially resulting in a Learning Activity Package (LAP) being prescribed.
