- A protozoan causing fever, transmitted by undercooked meat and cat feces.
Diagnosis
- Clinical Diagnosis: Depends on infection time and patient immunity.
- Neonates: Low-grade fever, pneumonia, enlarged liver and spleen.
- Immunocompetent individuals: Low to moderate fever, headache, chills.
- Immunocompromised individuals: Severe fever, CNS problems.
Laboratory Diagnosis
- Microscopic examination: Specimen analysis.
- Immunoglobulin detection: Tests to identify antibodies.
- Dye test
- Frenkel test
- PCR: Polymerase Chain Reaction for pathogen detection.
Treatment
- Pregnancy: Spiramycin.
