Encryption Types

There are several types of encryption, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Here are the main types of encryption:

Symmetric Encryption

Uses the same key for both encryption and decryption
Faster and more efficient than asymmetric encryption
Examples: AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), DES (Data Encryption Standard)

Asymmetric Encryption

Uses a pair of keys: a public key for encryption and a private key for decryption
More secure than symmetric encryption, but slower and less efficient
Examples: RSA (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman), elliptic curve cryptography

Hash Functions

One-way encryption, cannot be decrypted
Used for data integrity and authenticity verification
Examples: SHA-256 (Secure Hash Algorithm 256), MD5 (Message-Digest Algorithm 5)

Block Ciphers

Encrypt data in fixed-length blocks
Examples: AES, DES

Stream Ciphers

Encrypt data in a continuous stream
Examples: RC4 (Rivest Cipher 4), FISH (Fast and Simple Hash)

Note: These are the main types of encryption, but there are other variations and hybrids, such as hybrid encryption, which combines symmetric and asymmetric encryption.
