In the case of adjectives ending in y or iy, the 'e' becomes an 'i', and the 'i' drops off when the word ends in 'iy'. Syllabification of adjectives in Spanish follows similar patterns as in English; however, some things to note are that vowel digraphs become single letters when followed by another consonant, and 'h' often becomes an aspirated sound, which is marked with an apostrophe.
