Tiger Dietary Habits
Tigers are known for their carnivorous nature, making meat the primary ingredient of their diet. In the wild, they primarily hunt herbivores such as deer, antelopes, and zebras, although they have been observed feeding on birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects, crustaceans, mollusks, worms, eggs, and even rodents like rats. Tigers hunt according to their natural instincts and ambush their prey with stealth and agility. They do not eat vegetarian food.
In captivity, tigers consume around 12 pounds of raw meat per day. Their diet consists mainly of fresh chicken, beef, duck, lamb, pork, rabbit, turkey, and quail, supplemented by large quantities of vitamin C, minerals, protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, folic acid, organic acids, and lipotropic factors. Dry foods are also fed from time to time. However, it's important to note that some zoos feed their tigers only once every two days due to limited availability of live animals.
