Thesis Format

• Preliminaries
  • Title page
    • Inverted pyramid format
    • Single-spaced
    • No page number, but counted as page (i)
  • Approval sheet to List of figures
    • Page number on the lower middle using Roman numerals
  • Abstract
    • Summary of the entire study, including the title, background, objectives, methodology, conclusion, and recommendations.
    • Maximum 250 words
    • Included in the final defense
    • Acknowledgment may not be included in the proposal.
• Body of the Research paper
  • Chapter 1: Introduction
    • Background of the Study:
      • Global, national, and local situations
      • Reasoning for conducting the study
      • Bridges the gap between existing knowledge and prevailing problems
      • Limited* to 1 ½ pages
    • Theoretical Framework
    • Conceptual Framework
    • Statement of the Problem
    • Hypotheses of the Study
    • Scope and Limitation of the Study
      • Who, what, when, where, and why of the study
    • Significance of the Study
      • Written in singular form, indented, and followed by a period. No underline
    • Definition of Terms
      • Alphabetical order
      • Indented and followed by a period
      • Use both conceptual and operational definitions (start with conceptual)
      • Example of operational definition: "In this study, it refers to..."
  • Chapter 2: Review of Related Literature and Studies
    • May include subheadings
    • Review of Related Literature ­– minimum of 10 references
    • Review of Related Studies ­– minimum of 5 references
  • Chapter 3: Methodology or Research Methodology
    • Research Design
    • Research Locale
    • Respondents/Subjects/Participants of the Study
    • Sampling technique (For quantitative study only)
    • Research Instrument
    • Research Procedure
    • Statistical Treatment (For quantitative study only)
    • Ethical Consideration
    • Use the word "respondents" if the research instrument is a questionnaire, "subjects" if the research study is experimental, and "participants" for other research studies.
  • Chapter 4: Presentation, Analysis, and Interpretation
    • Presentation of the data (Table or Graph)
      • Table title on top, centered
      • Figure title at the bottom, left side of the paper
    • Analysis of the data
    • Interpretation of Data
    • Supporting literature
    • Include implications of the results after the analysis of the table or figure.
  • Chapter 5: Summary, Conclusions, and Recommendation
    • Summary: Summarizes the entire research process.
    • Conclusions: Discuss the results based on the study findings. States whether hypotheses are accepted or rejected.
    • Recommendations: Written in the same format as the Significance of the Study. Based on the statement of the problem and findings.

  • 1-page CV for each member
  • All photos must be the same.
• Margins
  • All Pages: 1 inch top, bottom, and right; 1 ½ inches left
  • Chapter 1 and beyond: Every first page of a chapter should have no page number but still be counted.
• Spacing
  • Double-spacing from subheading to and throughout the paragraph.
  • 3 single spaces to the next subheading.
