Therianthropy Concepts

• Therian: An individual identifying as a non-human animal on a deep personal level.
• Awakening: The realization and acceptance of one's therian identity; may involve discovering one's theriotype, but not universally experienced.
• Shifting: Perceived alterations in mental state from human to animal, can be various forms of transition.
• Theriotype: The specific animal or creature with which a person identifies.

Types of Therians

• Standard therian: Identifies as one earthly animal, experiences mental or phantom shifts related to this identity.
• Polytherian: Possesses multiple animal identities, can experience shifting related to each type simultaneously.
• Nonshifting therian: Identifies as non-human without experiencing shifts.
• Contherian: A nonshifting therian with consistent animal experiences, not varying; constantly in an animal state.
• Suntherian: Experiences a persistent non-human state and can perceive gradual shifts between human and animal mindsets.

Specialized Therians

• Cladotherian: Identifies with a broader category of animals (e.g., all felines), resisting specific species classification.
• Psychological therian: Comprehends identity as a neurological aspect, unrelated to past lives; shaped by current emotional or psychological factors.
• Spiritual therian: Connects identity to spiritual experiences, such as reincarnation or soul attachment, not grounded in neurological aspects.

Types of Shifts

• Mental shift: Experience when a person mentally embodies their animal form, often heightening senses and animalistic reactions.
• Phantom shift: Occurs when an individual perceives sensations or visualizes limbs of their inner animal, though only they can see these phantom limbs.
• Dream shift: Happens during sleep, allowing the person to experience their animal identity in dreams.
• Cameo shift: Involves temporary experience of another animal's shifts outside of one's theriotype.
• Astral shift: Involves meditation or lucid dreams to travel to a non-physical dimension, allowing the person to shift their astral body to align with their theriotype.
• Sensory shift: Alignment of the individual's senses with those of their inner animal.
• Aura shift: Change in the aura to reflect the inner animal, often noticed by others such as animals or children.

Therian Gear and Expression

• Gear: Items worn by therians such as collars, tails, and ears which serve as expressions of identity and help create a connection to their theriotype.
