The Wizard of Oz: Chapters 1 & 2

Chapter 1: The Cyclone

• Dorothy lives in Kansas with her Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, and her dog Toto doing hard labor in the sun
• One day, Uncle Henry is worried about spinning dark clouds in the distance
• He shouts that a cyclone is coming
• Aunt Em calls Dorothy inside to get to the storm cellar
• Dorothy runs to grab Toto as a strong wind shakes the house
• She holds Toto tightly as the house lifts into the air
• The house spins around, with Dorothy and Toto safe inside
• The house stops moving with a thump
• Dorothy and Toto discover they are in a colorful land with vibrant trees and flowers

Chapter 2: The Council with the Munchkins

• Dorothy wakes up to a colorful land after the house stops moving
• She sees a group of small people walking toward her dressed in blue clothes and round hats with tiny bells on them
• The woman reveals that Dorothy has freed the Munchkins from the Wicked Witch of the East
• The house had landed on and killed the Wicked Witch of the East as indicated by the feet wearing silver shoes sticking out from under the house
• The Good Witch of the North removes the silver shoes from the Wicked Witch's feet, and gives them to Dorothy
• She explains that the shoes are magical
• To return to Kansas, Dorothy must find the Wizard of Oz in the Emerald City
• She gives Dorothy a kiss for protection
• No one will dare harm Dorothy after the Good Witch's kiss and puts on the silver shoes and begins her journey on the yellow brick road

Chapter 3: How Dorothy Saved the Scarecrow

• Dorothy follows the yellow brick road, and sees a Scarecrow in a cornfield who magically winks and talks to her
• The scarecrow is stuck on a pole and asks for help
• Dorothy lifts the scarecrow off the pole
• The Scarecrow states that he wishes he had brains so he asks to come along
• So they walk together along the yellow brick road

Chapter 4: The Road Through the Forest

• Dorothy, the Scarecrow, and Toto continue on the yellow brick road into a dark forest as the golden fields of corn disappear
• They are now walking into tall, thick trees
• They hear strange rustling noises and think they see glowing eyes peering at them
• They encounter a Tin Man frozen near a tree
• The Tin Man says he's rusted and asks for oil
• Dorothy finds an oil can and oils the tin man and he can move again
• The Tin Man joins them on their journey

Chapter 5: The Rescue of the Tin Woodman

• Dorothy and her friends walk through the thick forest
• The Tin Man carries his oil can
• They come to a river and must build a raft in order to cross it
• Dorothy and Toto sit on the raft as the Tin Man and scarecrow push
• The scarecrow falls in the river when the raft drifts too far
• The Tin Man grabs a branch and rescues the scarecrow
• They decide to rest for the night
• The next morning, they continue on their way to the emerald city

Chapter 6: The Cowardly Lion

• Dorothy and friends walk deeper into the forest
• A Cowardly Lion leaps onto the path at Toto
• Dorothy slaps the lion on the nose to protect Toto
• The Cowardly Lion says he is a coward
• The group suggest to get courage from the Wizard
• The Lion pauses but decides to join the group

Chapter 7: The Journey to The Great Oz

• The group continues journey as the forest thins out
• The Tin Woodman warns of dangers ahead
• They approach a fast-flowing river blocking their path
• The Tin Woodman suggests building a raft
• With all the friends helping it becomes ready quickly
• The scarecrow falls into the river when the raft tilts
• The lion saves the scarecrow and the adventures are able to continue

Chapter 8: The Deadly Poppy Field

• The group become hopeful along the yello brick road
• The landscape becomes more beautiful with rolling hills and bright flower
• Dazzling ahead, the road leads straight into a huge field of red poppies
• As they stepped into the field, Dorothy suddenly became very sleepy
• Toto curls up by her as did the same
• Dorothy and Toto were fast asleep

Chapter 9: The Queen of the Field Mice

• The Tin Woodman claims that the flowers must be magical
• The Lion suddenly staggers and collapses
• The Scarecrow shouts to save them both as they may never wake up
• The Tin Woodman drags Dorothy out of the poppy field out of the poppy field but the Lion is too heavy
• Just then, they heard a small squeaky voice and saw a tiny mouse wearing a tiny crown
• The tiny creature claimed that she is the Queen of the Field Mice and will help using subjects to build a card and pull him out
• Once on safe ground, the fresh air revived him
• Dorothy says her goodbye’ s and feels great friend ship and hope for their journey

Chapter 10: The Guardian of the Gates

• Dorothy and her friends approached the gates to the Emerald City
• The guardian asks who goes there in a deep voice
• Dorothy said is travelers on a journey to seek the wizard
• The guardian of the gates adjusted his glasses and asked her purpose of business of seeing the wizard
• Dorothy wants to return to Kansas. The Scarecrow needs brains, the Tin Woodman wants a heart, and the Lion wants courage
• The guardian agrees to let them pass but before they do, he hands them a set of emerald glasses
• Everyone must have them to protect faces from the brightness of the city
• Dorothy, her friends, and Toto all took a pari and place them on

Chapter 11: The Wonderful Emerald City of Oz

• The Guardian unlocked the gate with a large golden key
• Everything was green
• People stared as the group walked through the city
• The group was later instructed that they would have to wait to see the Wizard
• They were taken to a building with soft green beds
• Dorothy became worried and spoke with the Tin men of their need for the wizard

Chapter 12: The Search for the Wicked Witch

• The next morning, Dorothy and her friends gathered together
• As they sat discussing their situation, a royal messenger arrived saying that the Wizard has changed his mind and will grant their wishes
• In return, they must prove themselves worthy by destroying the Wicked Witch
• Dorothy gasped as there was no way to defeat a wicked witch
• Dorothy took a deep breath and held Toto close
• They left the city and were following a path of dark and rocky terrain
• The scare glow said that they must be getting close
• wolves appeared showing their teeth
• After that, they continued until they reached a deep murky river

Chapter 13: How the Four Were Reunited

• Dorothy and her friends cautiously approached the Wicked Witch's castle
• It was growing darker and colder with the black stone walls looming high
• As they reached the gates, a loud cackle was heard
• The gates open and flying monkeys captured the group
• Dorothy screams as she was carried higher up
• The lion expresses worry
• She hugged to know that she has to find her friends and be brave
• Scarecrow pulled himself to shape determined to find his friends
• The group managed to find each other

Chapter 14: The Winged Monkeys

• Dorothy pushed open the castle doors and there the wicked witch was sitting on a high throne
• The witch yelled, "So you dare to enter my castle? You shall never leave!"
• Before the group could react, the witch clapped her hands and released winged monkeys
• she told the crew, the winged monkeys swooped down from the rafters
• Dorothy noticed a bucket of water and splashed it onto the witch to see if that would do anything
• In turn, the drop splashed onto the Wicked Withches foot

Chapter 15: The Discovery of Oz the Terrible

• Dorothy and her friends are left staring to the "wizard"
• He looked nothing like what they had imagined
• He apologized to the group for arriving how he did
• The group had hoped they could return home using the wizard
• The real wizard wanted to do his best to get them where they seeked

Chapter 16: The Magic Art of the Great Humbug

• Dorothy and her friends stood in disbelief
• Then, Oh was determined to full to fulfill what they wished how he knew
• The Wizard said, "I will help to believe with more keenly"
• Next, oz was approach the tin woodman to which he stated, " kindness and compassion shows you have always has one"
• oz turned to the lion in which what he sought was courage
• "drink this potion of courage" he said

Chapter 17: How the Balloon Was Launched

• Dorothy gathered silk from the finest fabrics in the emerald city
• The scare crow and Tin men worked it together was trying strings of golden thread
• The lion help care heaver ropes and materials
• It was said that this will surely helps bring them home
• "You must come with me, Dorothy, "Oz said - The only way to leave Oz
• As ready to clime in, toto jump to a stray kitten
• Before dorothy could reach to, a wind suddenly lifted the balloon into the sky

Chapter 18: Away to the South

• As Dorothy was separated from the wizard, she returned
• the scarecroy and Tin men were still by her side
• As she was upset, scare corw placed his arm by her side
• Dorthy Took a deep breath to really think of what she can do
• As a group, they met again the good witch and were off to seek one more

Chapter 19: Attacked by the Fighting Trees

• Dorthy with her companions left to The good witch palace
• along the way, They were accompanied by tall trees
• There was a wind rustle within the trees that concerned
• After that, the branches attack Dorothy an her companions
• There was almost no room to move
• Dorthy and her companions started run away
• The lion was a used to strength to pull them a part

Chapter 20: The Dainty China Country

• the group was then introduced to After China Town
• china town held beautiful and strange elements
• Dorothy was in awe of how the everything looked
• Dorothy with a small voice mentioned she did know how to get to china town
• the man nodded and let known it was going to happen
• In a turn, it was a need was care and gentle

Chapter 21: The Lion Becomes the King of Beasts

• Now free of china the the group continued on their journey
• as they progressed the lion sensed something
• The animals began to converge
• the lion on top of the rock Asked who they were and why they Dared to enter their land
• and it it was revealed that the cowardly lion travels with his friends to seek Glinda
• The animals talked about being tormented by the creature and look did someone who could defeated

Chapter 22: The Country of the Quadlings

• The Lion accepted to lead to their request
• The animals told them where to find the spider -The lion with a mighty roar left to face the best
• The spider crawled forward and the lion jumped in air
• Using his strength he ended a the best
• The quadlins were small and dressed in red and cheerful

Chapter 23: The Good Witch Grants Dorothy's Wish

• At the throne sat Glinda the good witch
• Dorthey explained that she wish to return but didn't know how
• Glinda took both of the shoes and tapped then to return home
• The good witch showed the true way and how the group can to return

Chapter 24: Home Again

• Dorothy found herself where she started as she finally understood the way around, by going the way glinda had showed
• Dorothy has been missed by her family
• She smiled and thanked for the support of all her friends
• "As was magical as Oz was "The lion Said
