Study Notes
The Deer
- The deer family, already familiar with Roz and Brightbill, did not run from them
- Roz introduces herself and Brightbill, seeking a doe named Tawny
- Roz explains Mr. Beaver aided them in building a lodge
- Roz hopes Tawny will help them grow a garden
- Tawny agrees to help grow a garden if her family can eat from it
- Roz nods in agreement and leads Tawny to the Nest
The Garden
- Tawny instructs Roz to clear the garden area of brambles, weeds, and leaves
- Tawny asks burrowing animals like moles and groundhogs to dig and loosen the soil
- Neighbors are asked to leave their droppings to enrich the soil, which draws attention and curiosity
- Animals chat and laugh while contributing their droppings before leaving with a smile
- Roz thanks everyone and explains inability to defecate, so appreciates their droppings
- Plants are introduced, and Roz carefully rolls up strips of sod to create a patchy lawn

The Mother

The First Swim

The Squirrel

The First Flight

- Brightbill spreads his feathery wings into the breeze and lifts off the ground for a moment before falling
- Roz references soaring seagulls and encourages Brightbill to adjust his wings in the wind
- Brightbill hops onto a rock and opens his wings wide, feeling the wind pushing him backward
- Roz instructs Brightbill to change the angle of his wings to slice through the air
- Brightbill hovers for a second, rising a little higher than before, and then sails backward into the soft grass again
- Roz continues to encourage Brightbill to practice until he is soaring
The Ship
- Brightbill often flies up on the grassy ridge.

The Summer

- They meet new friendly and unfriendly creatures, and worry about bears
- Encountering a bear fishing in the river, Brightbill flies away, Chitchat scurries home, and Roz blends with the landscape
- They meet back at the Nest and tell the neighbors about their brush with danger
- They stay inside on dreary summer days
- The youngsters kick acorns around the Nest, bounce them off Roz, and laugh together
- On clear summer evenings, they watch fireflies twinkle around the pond and look at the darkening sky

The Strange Family
- After goslings tease him about Roz, Brightbill returns home with a stormy expression

The Runaway

The Dead Robots

the Fight

- Nettle becomes angry, and says the gosling thinks the robot is his mom in a laughing manner
- Roz says they are on her island and need leave, nettle pulls roz into a bear hug,
- Nettble pulls Roz into a bear hug, Roz is now injured as there is a strange thimp sound as the robot's right foot popped off her leg and sailed through the air
- She needs help from thorn

The Parade
- Brightbill ask if Roz hurts.
- She will have a difficult time walking, bears apologize
- She asks the robot to walk, can not walk to enter the forest
- The wood needed to get a grip, then Roz crashed into the undergrowth
- Mother bear lay flat to help give a ride
- The robot, Brightbill can make it, as for everyone it began to arrive at the nest, the original members are remained for what is ahead

the New Foot
- Beaver squinted at stump, He’s never built a foot before, He might have to consult a few friends

- Three Racoons shuffle the garden, The fuzzy bandits says, Good days.

The Flier

- Roz was thinking about the small button again from his mother's head again.
