To be considered as an ultimate end, the act must be final and self-sufficient, “that which is always desirable in itself and never for the sake of something else,” and that man must be able to attain it. The idea that nearly everyone would agree that the end which meets all these requirements is happiness, is an idea that Aristotle claims to be true. Seeing that we desire honor, money, and pleasure is easy to do only because we believe happiness will be given to us by these goods. It seems that all other goods are merely a means towards obtaining happiness. On the other hand, happiness is always an end in itself.
