The Spirit
- The spirit of man is created in the image of God, comprising body, soul, and spirit.
- Body and soul serve as a veil or garment for the spirit, which is the immortal part and the image of God.
Elemental Qualities of the Spirit
- The spirit has four specific elemental qualities: fiery, airy, watery, and earthy.
- Fiery principle represents the will (volition) and is responsible for strength, power, and passion.
- Airy principle represents intellect (mind) and is responsible for memory, power of discrimination, and judgment.
- Watery principle represents life and feeling, and is responsible for conscience and intuition.
- Earthy principle represents the union of all three elements in the consciousness of the ego, and is responsible for egotism and instincts of self-preservation and propagation.
The Fifth Principle: Etheric Principle (Akasa)
- The etheric principle manifests itself in the highest aspect as faith, and in the lowest form as the instinct of self-preservation.
- Each elemental principle has many other aspects corresponding to the law of analogy of polarity or positive and negative elements.
