- The British administration endangered the religious and caste system, which formed the foundation of traditional Indian society.
-  Indian soldiers and administrators were denied advancement in their careers as senior positions were reserved for Europeans.
- The Mutiny was ignited in Meerut on May 9, 1857, when sepoys refused to use cartridges greased with cow and pig fat, which were considered offensive to their religious beliefs.
