The Story of the Turtle and the Monkey
- A monkey stole bananas from a tree and threw a green one to a turtle, eating all the ripe ones himself.
- The turtle, angry and seeking revenge, pretended to warn the monkey of an approaching crocodile, causing the monkey to fall on sharp bamboo and get killed.
- The turtle then cut the monkey's body into pieces, dried it, and sold it to other monkeys in exchange for squash.
- When the monkeys discovered what they had eaten, they chased the turtle, but he tricked them by claiming he had been struck by a hatchet many times and had black scars on his shell.
- The monkeys then threw the turtle into the water, but he emerged with a lobster and taught them how to catch lobsters by tying a stone to a string and sinking to the bottom.
- The monkeys, however, tied strings around themselves and plunged into the water, never to come up again.
- To this day, monkeys do not like to eat meat, remembering the ancient story.
The Second Encounter
- A monkey, hungry and sad, met a turtle and asked for help.
- The turtle suggested they steal some banana plants together, and they dug up some plants and set them in a new location.
- The monkey planted his in a tree, but the turtle, unable to climb, dug a hole in the ground and set his there.

- When they returned to check on their plants, the monkey's tree had died due to lack of soil, but the turtle's plant was thriving and bearing fruit.
- The monkey, wanting to get the fruit, climbed the tree, leaving the turtle on the ground alone.
