paraphrase the first stanza...........

The poem at hand is a narrative poem. The poet, Alfred Noyes, starts the poem by giving us a description of the setting. The story takes place on a dark windy night. The moon can hardly be seen from the clouds in the sky. However, Noyes tells us of one road that is lit by the moonlight. That road extends through a purple moor. Then the poet gives us an image of a highwayman riding his horse, coming from far away down the road, getting closer and closer.
Signup and view all the answers

write the theme of "Jealousy"

“The highway man” is a poem written by Alfred Noyes and talks about a story of a girl, called Bess, who was loved by two men, a highwayman (a thief) and an ostler (a stable man). This poem tackles theme The theme of jealousy is clearly shown in the text throughout the characters. jealousy that means the state or feeling of being jealous. The girl was in love with the highwayman, not the ostler. Because of that, the ostler was jealous from the highwayman. One night, the highway man went over to his beloved’s house and promised to meet her the following night with some gold he would have stolen. The ostler overheard them as they spoke together and carried the news to King George’s men (the policemen at the time). The ostler wanted to hand the highwayman over to King George’s men in order to keep Bess for himself. This behavior shows that the ostler thought only about what he wanted and gave no thoughts to what Bess wanted. This reflects how his jealousy turned to be a form of selfishness and self-love rather than being a sign of true love.
Signup and view all the answers
