A creative story is a story that is imagined and made up by the author.
Creative writing involves following the writing process, a series of steps to help authors publish their best writing.

The writing process consists of several steps: prewriting, writing, revising, editing, and publishing.
Prewriting:
- Involves brainstorming or thinking through different ideas for the story.
- Deciding on the topic of the story.
- Asking questions to help develop the idea, such as:
  - Who are the characters?
  - What is the setting?
  - What events will occur in the story?
- Using graphic organizers, like story maps, to organize ideas and connect them together.
Writing:
- Taking ideas from prewriting and starting to write the story.
- Not worrying about perfection during this stage, as mistakes can be corrected later.
Revising:
- Rereading the story and looking for changes to make it clear and engaging for the reader.
- Considering:
  - Is the story easy to follow?
  - Are there enough details about characters, setting, and events?
  - Is the story exciting or enjoyable to read?
Editing:
- Putting the finishing touches on the story.
- Using an editing checklist to identify areas to improve, such as:
  - Spelling
  - Punctuation
  - Word choice
  - Sentence structure
Publishing:
- Taking all the changes made and rewriting the story to include them.
- Finalizing the story for others to read.
