Spanish Colonization of the Philippines
- On May 24, a cannon shot was fired to recall a boat, but Sulayman thought it was a sign of Spanish hostility and responded with native cannon (lantaka).
- The superior firepower of the Spanish led the Filipinos to burn down their houses and leave Manila, prompting Goiti to return to Panay to report to Legazpi.
Battle of Bangkusay
- The battle was fought on June 3, 1571, marking the end of the first resistance to Spanish rule in Luzon.
- A nameless hero from Macabebe led the Moro warriors in battle against the Spaniards, challenging Spanish imperialism in Asia.
- Although the hero was killed, his military might remained historic and important, similar to the resistance of Tupas of Cebu in 1565 and the battle of Mactan by Lapulapu in 1521.
Legazpi and Spanish Colonization
- Legazpi made Manila the capital of the Spanish Colony in Asia.
