• Department of Posts launched an ‘Online request Transfer Portal’ for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS)
• DoP has the largest network of post offices in the world with more than 1,56,000 post offices across India
• More than 1,31,000 branch post offices are in rural areas
• The transfer process is now paperless and simple through the above portal
• Ministry of Communications oversees DoP
• Ashwini Vaishnaw is the minister of Ministry of Communications

• India’s first under water tunnel (East West Metro Tunnel) is being built under the Hoogly river in West Bengal
• The tunnel is part of the East-West Metro Corridor’s project
• It will take about 45 seconds for trains to cover the 520-meter stretch
• An estimated cost of Rs 120 Crore is being spent on the project
• The tunnel’s internal diameter is 5.55 meters and its external diameter is 6.1 meters
• The underground corridor of the East-West Metro is approximately 10.8 Km long
• Out of total length of 16.34 km, 10.8 km is underground & 520-metre is underwater
• Kolkata’s metro will be the first underwater train in India to run under a river
