On September 8, 2022, King Charles III, formerly known as The Prince of Wales, ascended to the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Prior to becoming King, he had been actively involved in public life for decades, establishing over 20 charities and supporting various causes such as the environment, rural communities, the arts, healthcare, and education. The King was born in Buckingham Palace in 1948 and became heir apparent at the age of three. He attended school rather than having a tutor at the Palace and went on to study at Cambridge University. He served in the Royal Navy and later married Lady Diana Spencer, with whom he had two sons. Following their separation, he continued to support Queen Elizabeth II and the Armed Services, and was involved in various charitable and cultural organizations in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and England.
