    Tequila Classifications

    • Tequila Silver (Blanco, Plata, White, Platinum)

      • Purest form of Blue Agave spirit; clear appearance.
      • Typically un-aged, showcasing intense Agave flavors and natural sweetness.
      • Can be bottled directly after distillation or settled in stainless steel tanks for up to 4 weeks.
      • Some Blanco varieties may age for up to 2 months for a smoother profile.
    • Tequila Gold (Joven, Oro)

      • Generally a Mixto, where colorants and flavorings are added prior to bottling.
      • Known as "young and adulterated"; commonly used in mixed drinks and less expensive.
      • Can also result from blending Silver with Reposado and/or Añejo while maintaining 100% Agave classification.
    • Tequila Reposado

      • Represents the first aging stage, resting in barrels or tanks for 2 to 11 months.
      • Develops a golden hue, balancing Agave and wood flavors.
      • Aged in various wood types, most frequently American or French oak; may also use used bourbon, cognac, or wine barrels for distinct flavors.
      • Also referred to as "rested" and "aged."
    • Tequila Añejo (Extra Aged)

      • Requires a minimum aging of one year in barrels not exceeding 600 liters.
      • Darkens to an Amber color during aging, resulting in a smoother, richer, and more complex flavor profile.
      • Commonly called "aged" or "extra-aged."
    • Tequila Extra Añejo (Ultra Aged)

      • Classification introduced in 2006 for Tequila aged over 3 years.
      • Aged following the same barrel capacity regulations as Añejo.
      • Takes on a Mahogany color; distinguished by extreme smoothness and complexity.
      • After aging, alcohol content is adjusted by adding distilled water, resulting in a high-quality spirit known as "ultra-aged."
