- This course aims to teach nurses the skills and strategies necessary to educate patients and promote learning
Nurse as Educator
- The role of the nurse as educator is not primarily to teach, but to promote learning and provide an environment conducive to learning
- The nurse should partner with patients, families, nursing staff, and students to promote participatory learning
Terminology
- Learning: internal process leading to change of behavior, less or more permanent in thinking, doing, and feeling
- Teaching: interactions between teacher and learner to facilitate learning
