Tamyiz Concept
- Tamyiz is an indefinite noun that removes ambiguity from a thing.
- The thing from which the tamyiz removes ambiguity is known as "حّ".
Division of Tamyiz
- Tamyiz is of two types:
- تمييز عن الذات (Tamyiz about the entity): removes ambiguity from an entity related to an amount, weight, or measurement.
- Examples: عندي ستون درهما (20 dirhams for Zaid), مع رطل من السمن (with me is a ritl of oil), هذا صاع من قمح (this is a saa' of wheat).
- تمييز عن الصفة (Tamyiz about the attribute): removes ambiguity from an obscure connection in a sentence.
- Examples: زيد جميل الخلق (Zaid is beautiful in character), أنا أكثر منك مالا (I have more than in you in wealth), أنا مندهش لنبل زيد فيه (I was astonished at the nobleness of Zaid in himself).
Rules of Tamyiz
- Tamyiz is always indefinite (nakirah).
- Tamyiz is mansoob, but becomes majroor if the mumayyaz is made mudaaf towards it.
- Examples: عندي قدم من أرض (with me is a foot of land), بعت صاعا من قمح (I sold a saa' of wheat), هذه عقدة من فضة (this is a necklace of silver).
- If the mumayyaz is an entity, it is permissible to annex it to the tamyiz.
