Fundamentals of Dance
- LEAP: A spring from one foot landing on the other foot in any direction.
- MASIWAK: To turn the hand from the wrist half-way clockwise then raise and lower wrist once or twice (Tagalog term).
- OUTSIDE FOOT: The foot away from one's partner, when partners stand side by side.
- OUTSIDE HAND: The hand away from one's partner, when partners stand side by side.
Dance Moves
- PATAY: To bend the head downward and support the forehead with the R forearm or with the crook of the R elbow while the L hand supports lightly the palm of the R hand (Ilocano term).
- PLACE: To put foot in a certain position without putting weight on it.
- PIVOT: To turn with the ball, heel, or whole foot on a fixed place or point.
- POINT: Touch the floor lightly with the toes of one foot, weight of the body on the other foot.
- PANADYAK: To stamp in front or at the side with the right foot and tap with the same foot close to the left foot (Tagalog term).
- SALOK: To swing the arm downward-upward passing in front of the body as if scooping, the trunk is bent following the movement of the arm doing the salok (Tagalog term).
- SAROK: Cross the R foot in front of the L, bend the body slightly forward, and cross the hands down in front of the R hand over the L (Visayan term).
- SLIDE: To glide foot smoothly along the floor.
Dance Steps and Patterns
- STEP SWING: Step R(L) foot in front, swing the L(R) foot in front with knee slightly bent across the R(L) foot.
- CHANGE STEP: Step R(L) foot forward, close-step L(R) foot to L(R) foot, and step R(L) foot forward again.
- HEEL AND TOE CHANGE STEP: Toe-touch, place R(L) heel forward in front, touch R(L) toes in rear, step R(L) foot forward, and heel-place.
- PARALLEL TORTILLIER: Pivot heels, pivot toes, and repeat.
- OPPOSITE TORTILIER: Pivot on L heel and R toes, then pivot on L toes and R heel.
- MAZURKA: Slide, cut, hop.
- REDOBA: Slide, cut, cut.
- SWAY BALANCE WITH A POINT: Step, cross, step, point.
- TOUCH STEP: Touch, close, step.
- STEP HOP: Step, hop, raise.
- STEP POINT: Step, point.
Other Dance Terms
- STAMP: To bring the foot forcibly and noisily on the floor with or without transfer of weight.
- TAP: To rap slightly with the ball or toe of the free foot, flexing the ankle joint, keeping weight of the body on the other foot.
- WHIRL: To make fast turns by executing small steps in place to right or left.
