- Supervisor: Lt Col Suman Kumar Sarkar
- Date: February 8, 2018
- Document Type: Standard Operating Process
- Purpose: Customized under CAMS, Mil Svy
Introduction
- An open-source GIS software (SURVEYKSHAK) has been customized for Defense forces.
- The software is designed based on a newly designed Defence Spatial Data Model (SDMS) for Defense Series Maps.
Capabilities
- The software can open and display digital topographical data using Mil Coordinate system, DSM sheet numbering, datum (WGS-84), Projection System, Grid (LCC), and file format (shp)
- Displays digital data in cartographic symbols, as depicted on hard copy maps. (Unlike other software)
- Handles geo-referenced digital satellite imagery/scanned topo maps.
- Captures coordinates in latitude/longitude format.
- Enables adding, editing, and updating spatial data (points, lines, polygons) with attribute tables.
- Groups feature classes
- Creates new attribute tables.
- Links photographs to features.
- Performs simple queries (e.g., locate a bridge, show roads)
- Measures distances.
- Analyzes networks.
- Supports 3D capabilities.
- Performs buffer zone analysis.
- Determines the location of features based on distance from other features.
Input Data
- Digital map data in shapefile format (*.shp).
- Files for Symbology definition (*.qml).
- Parameters for projection zone (/*.prj file).
- Satellite imageries/ topo scanned map (Geotiff).
- GPS data (points) coordinates in text/CSV format.
- Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for 3D analysis.
Installation
