Introduction

  • An open-source GIS software (SURVEYKSHAK) has been customized for Defense forces.
  • The software is designed based on a newly designed Defence Spatial Data Model (SDMS) for Defense Series Maps.

Capabilities

  • The software can open and display digital topographical data using Mil Coordinate system, DSM sheet numbering, datum (WGS-84), Projection System, Grid (LCC), and file format (shp)
  • Displays digital data in cartographic symbols, as depicted on hard copy maps. (Unlike other software)
  • Handles geo-referenced digital satellite imagery/scanned topo maps.
  • Captures coordinates in latitude/longitude format.
  • Enables adding, editing, and updating spatial data (points, lines, polygons) with attribute tables.
  • Groups feature classes
  • Creates new attribute tables.
  • Links photographs to features.
  • Performs simple queries (e.g., locate a bridge, show roads)
  • Measures distances.
  • Analyzes networks.

Input Data

Installation

  • Copy the Surveykshak 3.0 folder to your computer.
  • Install the prerequisites.
  • Install the NetFrame software as required by your Operating System.
  • Open Terra Explorer.
  • Copy Terra Explorer license file to the correct folder.
  • Create a desktop shortcut if required.

Opening Surveykshak 3.0

  • Click Surveykshak 3.0 on the desktop.

Add Vector Layer

  • Click Layer > Add Layer > Add Vector Layer.
  • Browse to select the file and click OK.

Add Raster Layer

  • Click Layer > Add Layer > Add Raster Layer.
  • Browse to select the file and click OK.

Create New Vector Layer

  • Click Layer > Create Layer > New Shapefile Layer.
  • Select layer type.
  • Select coordinate system.
  • Create Attribute fields.
  • Save the layer.

Editing Attribute Table

  • Right-click on the layer, and select "Open Attribute Table."
  • Click on Toggle editing, for editing attributes.

Feature Digitization

  • Select the layer.
  • Activate the toggle editing button.
  • Click Add Feature and start digitizing.
  • Fill attribute table and click OK to save.

Grouping of Feature Class

  • Select layers in the layer panel.
  • Right-click and select "Group Selected" option
  • Rename the Group as desired.

Vertical Tiling

  • Right-click the layer and select "Set Layer Scale Visibility".
  • Check the "Scale Visibility" box
  • Set the minimum and maximum visibility scales.

Setting of Coordinate Reference System

  • Military Survey provides prj files for coordinate systems with shape files.
  • Select the layer in the layers panel and right-click to open properties.
  • Select the Attributes Form.
  • Select the field to hyperlink photographs.

Shortest Path: Route Analysis

  • Select processing > Network Analysis.
  • Select shortest path option (layer to point, point to layer, or point to point).

Opening Surveykshak 3D

  • Open Surveykshak 3D from within Surveykshak 2D.
