Study Notes

Surah Qursi is a sura of the Qur'an, which means "The Sura of Qursi". It takes its name from verse 60, where God describes Himself with beautiful names like Al-Qurb and Al-Rashid. This sura was revealed in Makkah before the Islamic Calendar Hijri. Its lessons focus mainly on God's presence, His ability to judge people based on their actions, and how He rewards good deeds while punishing evil ones.

In this sura, Allah tells us the stories of people who were disobedient yet did not respond to His call, so they received punishment. On the other hand, those who responded to His call with obedience will receive reward. Some verses mention the difference between believers and disbelievers: Believers have faith that leads them towards good actions and righteousness, whereas disbelievers only believe without doing any act of goodness.

Another important lesson presented by Surah Qursi focuses on belief as an essential component. One can never say, "I am Muslim", unless he believes in all concepts like Muhammad being Allah's messenger, Angels, divine books, Day of Judgment, etc., and follows what has been ordered. For example, if one does not accept even one concept mentioned above, it would make him hypocrite.

This sura also discusses the characteristics of true believers versus false followers among Arabs, such as how true believers do not lie whereas false followers do. In addition, it states that God sends down rain both visible and invisible; whatever we cannot see may still affect our lives just as much as things we can see.

Furthermore, Surah Qursi teaches us how Allah is aware of everything we do, including small acts like smiling and talking softly behind someone's back, and big decisions like marrying and divorcing. Finally, the sura stresses that there is no life after death for those who deny it. They will face trouble during their lifetime and, ultimately, die.
