Structural Firefighting Strategy and Tactics
- This guide provides a general direction for structural firefighting strategy, tactics, and other considerations to promote consistency, effectiveness, order, and safety.
Safety Considerations
- Personnel must prioritize personal safety and the safety of the general public when responding to and operating at residential structure fires.
- Full personal protective equipment (PPE) including SCBA must be worn in accordance with SOP Chapter-Personal Protective Equipment.
- Bunker gear should be donned prior to apparatus response if possible, but not while the apparatus is in motion and the individual is not wearing a seatbelt.
Response to Possible Structure Fires
- All reports of "Possible structure fire" will be considered as working structure fires until investigated by Fire Rescue personnel.
Training and Responsibility
- SJCFR officers are responsible for training their personnel in the application of this guideline.
- Personnel are expected to follow this guide in managing an event such as a structure fire, but company officers and/or incident command may require changes to strategy and tactics applications and order as needed.
