• SSC MTS stands for Staff Selection Commission Multi-Tasking Staff.
• It's a national level exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for recruiting General Central Service Group 'C' non-gazetted, non-ministerial posts in various departments, ministries, and offices of the Government of India.
• CBSE is the Central Board of Secondary Education.
• While CBSE isn't directly related to the SSC MTS exam itself, it's relevant as it is a common education board in India, and many candidates appearing for the SSC MTS exam have typically completed their secondary education (Class 10) under CBSE or equivalent boards.

Exam Pattern

• The SSC MTS Exam is conducted in two phases: Tier-I (Computer Based Examination) and Tier-II (Descriptive Paper). From 2023 onwards, a modified pattern is followed where Tier II has been removed.
• Tier-I is an objective type test conducted online.
• As per the latest update, Tier-I consists of two sessions: Session-I and Session-II.
• Session-I includes Numerical and Mathematical Ability, and Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving.
• Session-II includes General Awareness and English Language and Comprehension.
• There is no negative marking in Session-I. There is negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Session-II.
• Tier-II was a descriptive paper in which candidates were asked to write a short essay or letter in English or any language included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
• From 2023 onwards, Tier II has been removed from the selection process.

  • Numerical and Mathematical Ability: This includes topics such as Integers and Whole Numbers, LCM and HCF, Decimals and Fractions, Relationships between numbers, Fundamental arithmetical operations, BODMAS, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, Work and time, Direct and inverse Proportions, Averages, Simple interest, Profit and loss, Discount, Area and Perimeter of basic geometric shapes, Distance and Time, Lines and Angles, Interpretation of simple Graphs and Data, Square and Square root, etc.
  • Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving: The syllabus includes questions on analogies, series, coding-decoding, problem-solving, non-verbal reasoning based on diagrams, age calculations, calendar and clock, etc.
  • General Awareness: This section assesses the candidate’s general knowledge about the environment and its application to society. Questions are designed to test knowledge of current events and matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect. It includes topics related to India and its neighboring countries, especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economics, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research.
  • English Language and Comprehension: Candidates’ understanding of the basics of English language, vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage and reading comprehension will be tested.
  • Note: The standard of the questions for Numerical and Mathematical Ability, Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving will be of 10th level. The standard of questions for English and General Awareness will be such as an average graduate would be expected to answer.
