Single Phase Motor Types
- Split-phase motor: Uses two windings, a main winding and a starting winding, to create a rotating magnetic field.
- Capacitor-start motor: Similar to split-phase, but uses a capacitor in series with the starting winding to improve starting torque.
- Capacitor-start capacitor-run motor: Uses two capacitors, one for starting and another for running, to improve efficiency and running torque.
Reversing Rotation
- Swapping the connections of the starting winding: This changes the direction of the magnetic field produced by the starting winding, thus reversing the motor’s rotation.
Single-Phase Motor Components
- Centrifugal switch: Used to disconnect the starting winding once the motor reaches a certain speed.
- Auxiliary winding: The starting winding (with or without a capacitor) provides the starting torque.
- Capacitor: Increases the starting torque of the motor by increasing the phase difference between the currents in the main and auxiliary windings.
Contactor Symbol
- This symbol represents a contactor with 24Vdc coils and 3-phase output contacts.
- The 'N/O' (Normally Open) and 'N/C' (Normally Closed) contacts are also indicated.
