Singapore Independence from Malaysia

On August 9th, 1965, Singapore achieved independence from Malaysia after initially being part of it since September 16th, 1963. This event came after several years of complex negotiations over issues such as immigration controls, taxation, and other economic policies. In terms of political ideologies, there was also discord, with Singapore favoring democratic socialism while Malaysia preferred a more conservative approach. Prior to this, Singapore had been seeking full autonomy within Malaysia, which eventually led to its split from the federation.
