- Subject to dismissal for 4 or more Avoidable Crashes.### Disciplinary Actions for Vehicle Crashes
- 1st Avoidable Crash:
- Letter of counseling and instruction by supervisor
- Loss of Sheriff’s Office vehicle use for 5 working days
- 2nd Avoidable Crash (within 1-year period):
- Written reprimand
- Loss of Sheriff’s Office vehicle use for 15 working days
- Mandatory attendance at remedial driver training class (if crash occurred in a motor vehicle)
- 2nd Avoidable Crash (within 3-year period):
- Written reprimand
- Loss of Sheriff’s Office vehicle use for 10 working days
- 3rd Avoidable Crash:
- Five days suspension from duty without pay
- Loss of Sheriff’s Office vehicle use for 30 working days
- Mandatory attendance at remedial driver training class (if crash occurred in a motor vehicle)
- Alternative: Three days suspension from duty without pay, loss of Sheriff’s Office vehicle use for 20 working days, and mandatory attendance at remedial driver training class (if crash occurred in a motor vehicle and not previously attended within 12 months)
- 4 or more Avoidable Crashes:
- Five days suspension from duty without pay
- Loss of Sheriff’s Office vehicle use for 30 working days
- Mandatory attendance at remedial driver training class (if crash occurred in a motor vehicle and not previously attended within 12 months)
- 5 or more Avoidable Crashes within a 3-year period:
- Subject to dismissal
- Extenuating Circumstances Crashes:
- Coaching session by supervisor concerning the cause of the crash and proper defensive driving techniques
- District/Division Commander may recommend enhanced disciplinary measures for repeated Extenuating Circumstances Crashes within a three-year period
