State Religion
- A state religion is a religious body or organization that is officially recognized and supported by the government
- Can be seen as a form of establishmentarianism, where the government gives preferential treatment to one religion over others
- Examples: Anglicanism in England, Catholicism in some European countries, Islam in some Middle Eastern countries
Church-State Separation

- Aims to prevent the government from interfering with religious practices and to prevent religious institutions from influencing government policy
- Examples: The United States, France, and many other Western democracies
Atheism
- The belief that there is no God or gods
- Can be seen as a form of secularism, as it rejects the idea of a higher power or religious authority
- Atheists may still hold moral and ethical beliefs, and many atheists advocate for secular ethics and human rights
Freedom of Religion
- The right to practice or not practice any religion, as well as the right to change one's religion or belief
- A fundamental human right, recognized in international law and many national constitutions
- Secularism aims to protect and promote freedom of religion, ensuring that individuals are not discriminated against based on their beliefs
Secular Ethics
- A system of ethics based on human reason, empathy, and compassion, rather than religious doctrine
- Focuses on promoting human well-being, dignity, and equality, without reference to supernatural or religious authority
- Secular ethics can provide a common moral framework for people of different religious beliefs and none, promoting social cohesion and understanding
