Sanyukta Hasta Mudras
- Anjali: Palms are open, fingers and thumbs extended, and held close together; used to express a salute to God, teacher, or Brahma.
- Kapota: Palms are slightly hallowed, facing towards oneself, and joined at the side and top; used to express Namaskar and show respect to teachers and elders.
- Karkata: Fingers are clasped with each other, and hands are kept with knuckles facing outwards; used to express arrival of a group, stoutness, and other actions.
- Swastika: Two Pataka hands are crossed at the wrists, with the left hand placed above the right; used to express fear, argument, and other emotions.
Expressing Emotions and Actions
- Dola: Two Patakas are used, with the back of the palms resting on the thighs; used in the beginning of a dance performance.
- Puspaputa: Palms are hallowed, fingers and thumb close together, and slightly bent at the top; used to express Arati, offering a light, and accepting a fruit.
- Utsang: Palm is raised facing outwards, three fingers bent towards the palms, and the thumb bent slightly backwards; used to express hug, shyness, and happiness.
- Shivling: Combination of Ardhachandra with the left hand and Shikhara with the right hand; used to express God Shiva.
