Default Locale

  • Locale dictates the language and format of Date, Time, Address, Currency, Name and Number fields
  • Defaults for locale are found under Company Information settings
  • Company administrators set the Default Locale
  • Personal settings allow users to override the company default via Language & Time Zone settings

Language

  • There are 3 levels of language support
  • If a language is fully supported, all features in Salesforce are available in that language
  • In the end-user level of support, translations exist for standard objects, but Help and Setup do not have support
  • With the Platform level, translations are possible for custom and standard objects, however, Help and Setup have no support
  • Salesforce supports 18 fully supported languages, 17 end-user languages, and 100+ platform languages
  • Personal language settings can be adjusted via My Settings → Personal → Language & Time Zone

Organization ID

  • Each Salesforce org has a unique 15-character identifier
  • The Organization ID is located in the Company Information page
  • This ID is unique across all environments
  • Users must provide this ID when requesting support

Licenses

  • Licenses define the features and services available to an org
  • There are 3 license types:
    • User Licenses cover baseline features.
    • Feature Licenses provide access to additional features
    • Permission Sets grant gradual user access to license features

Salesforce API

  • API stands for Application Programming Interface
  • It enables programmatic access to Salesforce such as Data Load and Informatica
  • The number of API requests within 24 hours are limited based on the Salesforce edition and number of licenses
  • The API is available in Enterprise, Unlimited, Developer, and Performance editions (EUDP)

Time Zone

  • Time and date fields are displayed according to the time zone setting
  • The time zone is set on the Company Information Page and used as the default for new users
  • Users have the ability to set their own time zone, overriding the Organization Setting via My Settings → Time Zone
  • Time and Date fields reflect the users time zone setting

Currencies

  • Organizations can operate with single or multiple currencies
  • The default currency is accessed via Company Information → Currency Locale
  • Single currency is set as a default
  • Enabling multiple currencies allows the recording of amounts in various currencies on records
    • Multiple currencies must be enabled in Company Information
    • A corporate currency must be defined
    • Corporate currency is set on the Company Information page
    • Currencies must be activated for use
    • Users can set individual currencies in Advanced User Details after the multiple currency setting is enabled
    • Exchange rates between active currencies can be managed in the Manage Currencies page
    • Dated exchange rates are found in Advanced Currency Management settings
    • Once enabled, multiple currencies cannot be disabled
  • Reports support multiple currencies, classified as primary or secondary
    • Primary currency is the corporate currency
    • Secondary currency is the personal default or a currency specified in the report

Business Hours and Holidays

  • Business hours determine when assistance is available to customers
  • Business hours are used to calculate support process hours and case escalation times
  • Also determine when to begin the entitlement process and run milestones
  • One can define multiple business hours, but only one can be selected as the default
  • Holidays are excluded when calculating case escalations

Fiscal Year Configurations

  • The accounting year is also known as the Business Year for a company
  • Standard or custom fiscal years can be used
  • Standard fiscal years follow the Gregorian calendar
    • They can start on the first day of any month
    • Can be named for its starting or ending year
  • Custom fiscal years are defined based on custom periods
    • Can be created from existing or modified templates
    • Templates are available for quarters/year, weeks/quarter and periods/year
    • Impact forecasting, reports, and quotas
  • A custom fiscal year cannot revert to standard once enabled
    • Implementation of a standard fiscal year is possible by using a Gregorian calendar template

Data and File Storage

  • Data storage involves the creation of records
  • Most records use 2KB of storage space
    • Person Account = 4KB
    • Campaigns = 8KB
    • Email storage is size determined
  • File storage locations in Salesforce: attachments, Documents tab, Files tab, Content, and Chatter
    • Chatter includes user photos and Site.com assets
  • Storage limits are as follows:.
    • Enterprise edition provides 10GB data storage plus 20MB per user license and 10GB file storage plus 2GB per user license
  • Organizations using Big Objects is limited to 1 million big object records

Default Record Page View

User Interface Settings

Compact Layout Settings

Utility Bar

Temporary Tabs
