Study Notes
• Control Person(s) Safety Co-Ordinator(s) consult with other Systems to agree, initiate, and record necessary actions to establish and maintain safety precautions on interconnected Plant and Apparatus across the control boundary.
• Senior Authorized Persons carry out or instruct others to carry out necessary operations to establish safety precautions within the 660 MW LEPCL control boundary, achieving Safety from the System, and obtaining confirmation that each instruction has been carried out.
• A Designated Person is responsible for executing safety precautions with the coordination of a Senior Authorized Person prior to issuing a Safety Document, completing and signing a record of the safety precautions taken.
• Personal Supervision involves a Person supervising personnel being supervised at all times during the course of work or testing.
• Switching involves the operation of circuit breakers, dis-connectors/isolators, or other methods of making or breaking an electrical circuit, and/or the application and removal of Primary Earths and fuses.
• System Transfer Record documents the transfer of a LEPCL Limited Work Permit, Permit for Work, or Sanction for Test, and items of Plant and Apparatus used separately or in combination in any process associated with the business of 660 MW LEPCL.
• Zone 0/20 refers to locations where an explosive gas/vapors or dust atmosphere is present continuously, or for long periods, or frequently.
• Zone 1/21 refers to locations where an explosive gas/vapors or dust atmosphere is likely to occur under normal operating conditions occasionally.
• When a fault-making device or a circuit breaker has been removed from its service position, it shall be immediately electrically discharged to earth, after which Primary or Drain Earths need not be applied.
• Before a break is made in a conductor or a connection is made across a break, Danger from voltage difference must be excluded, and if necessary, conductors shall be Earthed on both sides of and in close proximity to the point where a break or connection is to be made.
• Work may be carried out on one phase of phase segregated Apparatus with Primary Earths applied only to that one phase, provided that all three phases are Isolated.
• Venting of Plant and Apparatus involves carrying out venting in a controlled manner to ensure that there is no Danger to personnel from any emission from the vent, and that atmospheric pressure is established internally in the Plant and/or Apparatus.
• Precautions shall be taken to maintain the established safe conditions during the work or testing.
