History of Volleyball: William G. Morgan invented volleyball in 1895. Initially called "mignonette," it combined elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball, involving offensive passing and blocking strategies. The first YMCA national championship was held in Brooklyn, NY in 1992, with eleven US states participating.
Volleyball Court Dimensions and Rules

Volleyball Skills

Serving: Different serving methods include underhand, topspin, and overhand, with specific rules on the player's positioning and the ball’s trajectory (must be visible to the opponent and the ball's service must not violate the lines.

Passing: Includes forearm and overhead passes (setting). Forearm is most often used to receive services or attacks with low trajectories, while overhead is used to prepare a spike by another player and the ball must be above the net.

Spiking: A forceful strike directed at the opposing team's court. Players must wait for the setter and correctly position themselves to spike the ball after the set.

Blocking: Players jump high with outstretched arms and palms facing the net to deflect the ball. Players must avoid touching the net.
